After-School Snacks: By the Numbers
A Farm Rich survey uncovers important trends in after-school snacking—and how moms can help kids make smart choices.
Your kids learn reading, writing, and arithmetic at school, but when they come home, their attention turns straight to snacking. Farm Rich conducted a national survey of parents with school-aged children and discovered that 90 percent of kids eat before they do anything else after school. Steer your children toward wholesome options with five easy snack ideas inspired by our research:
1.) Hearty Finger Food
Ninety-five percent of parents agree that snacks give kids a much-needed energy boost, but for many, there’s an hour or less between school and activities. Beat the clock by serving Farm Rich Cheese Sticks. These tasty snacks are a good source of calcium and protein and only take minutes to prepare.
2.) Irresistible Slices
Can’t always be there for snack time? You’re not alone. Nearly half of parents aren’t with their kids between school and dinner, and more than a third of kids make their own snacks. Just stock your freezer with Farm Rich Pizza Slices, a wholesome snack kids can easily heat in the microwave.
3.) Mozzarella Goodness
More than half of parents say it’s important to provide snacks high in nutrients, but this doesn’t have to be a tall order. Farm Rich Mozzarella Bites are ready in minutes, and like all our snacks, they’re made with real ingredients. Plus, these cheesy bites are popular with kids and are a good source of calcium and protein.
4.) Chicken Fiesta
Sixty-two percent of parents say their kids head for the kitchen cabinets or pantry to find snacks, so serving them something warm can turn the after-school hour into family fun time. Try Farm Rich Quesadillas for a fast, tasty choice, with grilled all-white meat chicken and three different real cheeses.
5.) Pizza by the Bite
Worried about spoiling their appetites for dinner? Nearly half of fellow parents share your concern, and more than half say portion size is important. With Farm Rich, you can choose exactly how much to make and put the rest back in the freezer. Heat up a few Pizzeria Bites for a small but satisfying snack.
Spice Up Your Cinco de Mayo With Farm Rich
Celebrated around the world, Cinco de Mayo is a great time to indulge in some scorching snacks. Give this fiery day the attention it deserves by treating your taste buds to a little tang. Try a zesty appetizer such as our classic mozzarella Cheese Sticks with spicy salmon dip. Fire away!

What's the Word on TRANS FAT?
Farm Rich products contain 0g trans fats per serving. So what does that mean for you? Better health! Here are the facts:
1.) All fats aren't created equal. There are "good" fats, like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated (when consumed in moderation), and "bad" fats, such as saturated fat and trans fat. This FDA article offers the basic low-down on the fats you want and the ones you don't.
2.) Getting confused by all the different fat stats on nutrition labels? Then learn how to sleuth out and avoid the hidden fats in food.
3.) We've heard about HDL and LDL cholesterol for years now—one is good (HDL) and one is bad (LDL). But how do we apply this knowledge when making choices about food? And where do trans fats enter the equation? Here is some trans fat advice from the Mayo Clinic. (Wait, shouldn't that be the "Hold the" Mayo Clinic?)
4.) And if you haven't gotten your fill of trans fats knowledge yet, you can learn more basics about everyone's least-favorite fat.
Start the Day off Right!
We've heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for kids. But how important is it really? Well, for starters, a State of Minnesota Breakfast Study showed that "students who ate breakfasts before starting school had a general increase in math grades and reading scores, increased student attention, reduced nurse visits, and improved student behaviors." And that's just the beginning. Read on for more benefits to starting the day off right. Or try some Farm Rich French Toast Sticks today!
CALCIUM: Good for Every Body

We know we should be getting more dairy in our diets, but sometimes it’s difficult to suss out where our best source of calcium may lie. Here's a handy table comparing various sources of calcium.
